The forecast reported that on that day it would be drizzling all day, but as the practice began, a rainbow appeared in the sky, and we were blessed with clear, pleasant weather. This baseball clinic had from an elementary student team to an adult team and a girl team. A total of about 60 Thai baseball players from a wide range of age groups participated and the baseball ground was filled with great excitement and smiles from them. In the opening event, the practice began with a greeting from President of Baseball Association of Thailand Mr. Duangchot said “I’ve been looking forward to this day. Let’s have fun together through baseball today.”

They couldn’t communicate with each other well at the beginning because of the language barrier. However, children showed their smiles and their skills visibly improved as time went by. They overcame the language barrier through sports and it was a moment that made us realize firsthand the power of sports to connect people. In addition, the team’s manager Mr. Kiyota who is a former professional baseball Japanese player and the team’s coach Mr. Aoki provided enthusiastic coaching and amazing batting that made children practice with sparkling eyes, and their dedication was so impressive. At the end, Saitama Musashi Heat Bears gave official baseballs to the youth baseball team, and in return, the youth team presented commemorative gifts, creating an opportunity to deepen their mutual exchange.

Thailand has larger land than Japan but they have just one official baseball stadium here, Queen Sirikit’s 60th Baseball Stadium. That is why baseball is still a minor sport in Thailand. However, seeing so many children enjoying themselves while playing baseball, we could strongly feel the potential and the hope about baseball for the future. We will continue to support the development of baseball in Thailand and strive to serve as a bridge for international exchange through sports.
